Compliance & Verification Officer (Defence)

The Defence & Security Portfolio has a series of market-leading events currently based in the UK, USA, Europe and Asia. These range from confex style events to large scale exhibitions. All are market leaders within their ‘space’ and the next 12 months will see us continue to expand and innovate both in new geographies and on new platforms.

An opportunity has arisen for a Compliance & Verification Officer to work alongside the Compliance & Verification Manager in the Customer Operations team within the portfolio on an exciting new event, SOF Week.

The Candidate:

We have recently won the contract to run an established special forces event based in Tampa, Florida which will sit nicely alongside our existing GSOF Symposium Europe. This role will be liaising with teams here in the UK and will involve working close with internal teams and also our event partner in this venture, Global SOF Foundation.

The purpose of this role is to implement export control compliance checks of all exhibiting companies for SOF Week and GSOF Symposium Europe in accordance with UK/UN/International regulations governing the global defence trade to ensure compliance breach free events.

You will also be responsible for the verification of all individuals who register to attend these events, in accordance with UK/UN/International regulations governing the global defence trade and the event admission policies.

Key Responsibilities:

Exhibitor Compliance

  • Monitor international & UK agencies such as United Nations, European Union, Economic Community of West African States, UK FCO, DIT and Home Office to identify issues or new legislation that could cause issues with visitor/exhibitor attendance.
  • Provide internal team briefs to highlight issues or new legislation that could affect visitor/exhibitor attendance and ensure event compliance with current UK export control legislation and firearms legislation.
  • Attend event specific planning meetings and provide management briefs on the progress and implementation of compliance planning and policies as required.
  • Implement a pre-event compliance assessment of all companies exhibiting across the CDSL portfolio of events in accordance with UK/UN/International regulations governing the global defence trade and local and firearms legislation, produce event specific RAG assessments for use during on-site compliance checks.
  • Coordinate with overseas exhibitors on the procedures for the import and export of prohibited goods and/or weapons.
  • Coordinating the documentation and listing of firearms pre-show and on-site where required.
  • Implement the onsite compliance process and checks on exhibiting companies across the CDSL portfolio of events, in accordance with UK/UN/International regulations governing the global defence trade.
  • Produce post event compliance reports and complete all relevant administration to a high standard and in a timely manner.

Visitor Verification

  • Assist with the development of software platforms and procedures used for the verification of all Individuals who register to attend the CDSL portfolio of events.
  • Implement the pre-event verification of all Individuals registered to attend the CDSL portfolio of events in accordance with UK/UN/International regulations governing the global defence trade and the event admission policies.
  • Implement the on-site verification of all Individuals who register to attend the CDSL portfolio of events in accordance with UK/UN/International regulations governing the global defence trade and the event admission policies.
  • Produce post event reports and complete all relevant administration to a high standard and in a timely manner.

General Security Tasks  

  • When tasked, assist the Head of Security in the development and implementation of security plans and procedures for the CDSL portfolio of exhibitions and conferences commensurate with the event risk assessment and local conditions.
  • Provide a security support function to the Head of Security at the CDSL portfolio of exhibitions and conferences.
